How to Choose Protective Film Thickness? A Complete Guide to 'Si' and 'C'

  • Release time: 2026-07-16

When sourcing PE protective film, you'll often hear terms like "1丝" (Si), which is also called "1C" and equals 0.01mm. Understanding this unit is crucial for selecting the right product.

Typically, 1-3C (0.01mm-0.03mm) thin films are suitable for smooth surfaces, cost-sensitive projects, or packaging wrap needs like temporary tile protection. 4-6C (0.04mm-0.06mm) is the most common medium thickness, balancing puncture resistance and flexibility. This range is ideal for protecting metal sheets and plastic profiles during fabrication and transport. For rough surfaces or heavy equipment requiring high impact resistance, 7-10C (0.07mm-0.10mm) thicker films are recommended.

Remember, a thicker film does not always mean better protection. The key lies in matching the thickness to the surface roughness and processing method. Rougher surfaces generally require a thicker substrate to ensure conformability.
